The Church of Jesus Christ the Lord, Inc. was established in 1979 by the late Bishop Nicholas Bolton and wife, Missionary Viola Bolton. The work was launched under the leadership of the Lord in the home of the Boltons at 9 East 21st Street in Paterson New Jersey. They found favor with the local authorities and were allowed to conduct regular church services. The church remained in this location for thirteen years and in 1991 the Lord provided a fine church home at 140 Lawrence Street, Paterson, New Jersey.
The church grew from strength to strength as new members were added - elders, ministers, evangelist and deacons were ordained in the ministry. It became evident that a new church building was needed to accommodate the growing needs of the church. After four years of planning, the church building project commenced in January 2007. Bishop Bolton reported, “It was my earnest desire that we should have a beautiful sanctuary to worship the Lord. The bible says that God will work on the desires of our hearts according to His will. Therefore, I sought the Lord earnestly and went to visit the church accountant to discuss the feasibility of the project. He felt that it was possible but the affordability was questionable. Still pressed in spirit, I expressed my desire to my wife, Mother Bolton, affectionately called “Dear” and she was very enthusiastic about a new church. After consulting with the Board of Trustees and the general assembly, everyone was in full agreement that we should build a new sanctuary.”
With the help the Lord, the saints and a faithful Building Committee, the new church project commenced. They included: Elder M. Simpson, Elder J. Murray, the late Elder R. Lee, Elder G. Brooks, Elder K. Williams, Elder G. Sterling, Elder M. Sterling, Elder W. Green, Evan. E. Murray, Evan. C. Simpson, the late Deacon Hylton, Deacon R. McKoy, Deacon R. Palmer and the late Mother Bolton. The committee was chaired and coordinated by Bishop G. Sampson-Lee.
The new State-of-the-Art church building was completed and dedicated on June 21, 2008. Bishop Bolton declared, “ I have an assurance that this sanctuary is God’s seal of approval for my ministry. They say that the best is kept for the last. Therefore, I must say that had it not been for my loving wife, Mother Viola Bolton ('Dear'), who stood with me all along the way, my ministry would not have been successful.”
Today, the Church of Jesus Christ the Lord, Inc. stands as a proud beacon of hope in the City of Paterson under the leadership of Bishop Gale Sampson-Lee, MPH, Pastor. The church is built on the site of the oldest Baptist church in the State of New Jersey – built in the 1800’s. It stands on the sure foundation – Jesus Christ!! A well – which signifies the ever-flowing blessings of God – springs at the core of its foundation – Thanks be God who giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
MISSION AND VISION
The Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ the Lord (CJCTL) is to reach the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ by empowering believers in our church, community and the world to become effective disciples of Christ through ministering to the needs of the whole man – spiritual, emotional and temporal.
The Vision for CJCTL is in response to the Great Commission that God has given to believers everywhere to “Go ye therefore into all the world, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe also things that I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always even to the end of the world.” (Matthew 28:19-20); and Acts 2:38 “Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins.”

Our goal is to raise up an army of spiritually-matured young men and women who are empowered by God, purpose-driven and committed to fulfilling their God-given destiny. Our Goals are reached through:

Seeking the guidance of the Lord in our worship and extensive Bible Study services which are Biblically grounded and culturally relevant. Our goal is to provide a worship setting and learning experience that provides the worshiper with a life-changing experience with the living God.

Our Leadership Teams were created for the purpose of connecting with others. Our Team Leaders provide opportunities to connect with others who are at the same stage of life and to learn from each other through the sharing of personal experiences. The Team Leaders work to provide spiritual guidance and develop relationships that will keep you connected to our church family.

God called us to make a difference in the world. He's gifted every believer with talents, experiences, resources and spiritual gifts. We're called to put action to our beliefs and use our gifts to serve the Lord through service in the church, as well as missions (ministry) in the community and the world.
